Last year more incarcerated persons studied at Italian Universities ever

There are 164 students serving criminal sentences enrolled at the University of Milan, confirming the Milanese university’s position at the top of the Italian rankings among the 46 universities belonging to the Conference of Penitentiary University Centres (CNUPP). The news comes from the CNUPP’s 2025 Report, presented in Catania on 10 June at the Conference’s national assembly, which records a nationwide increase not only in enrolments for the 2024-2025 academic year (1,837), but also in Italian universities’ commitment to the right to study in prison.
